Mnemosyne: Refraction

Details for the Activity

  • Topic: Personal Development
  • Place: Athens
  • Duration: 11/3/2023, 20.30 - 23:00

Mnemosyne in Greek mythology was the goddess of memory but also the woman who gave life to the nine Muses along with Zeus. Her existence was precious, as without her the Muses would not have been able to do their art and be their part in mythology. In art, creation is produced when a part of the emotional, a part of the memory, is activated, consciously or unconsciously. Memory moves us while creation is what co-moves us.

This year's theme of the group is the concept of identity, as a driving force of discovery, inspiration and personal research. This year's Mindfulness group consists of 11 women who embarked on this journey of introspection trying out different art methods and approaches to the human psyche. Some of these methods were dance therapy, collage, self-mapping and Gestalt psychology. Along with these meetings, the team members shared common experiences by going to exhibitions together, talking about them, sharing personal experiences and thoughts and also organising today's exhibition-festival.

Μnemosyne is the self-awareness group of Hellenic Youth Participation. It has been active for 8 years and every year the members examine a different theme, coming into contact with different types of art and treatments. Every year the members hold an exhibition-celebration presenting the impact of Mnemosyne to friends, loved ones, artists, passers-by and members of Hellenic Youth Participation.
