Empowering Young Women and Youth Workers Fighting Gender Stereotypes Through Media and Communication

A powerful initiative is underway across the Mediterranean, challenging outdated narratives and equipping a new generation with the tools for change. The "EUROMEDITERRANEAN GIRL POWER Reloaded" project is a two-year multinational effort uniting five countries—Italy, Spain, Palestine, Tunisia, and Greece—in a mission to dismantle gender stereotypes in media and communication. Building on the success of its predecessor, the project is set to run until February 2026.

This ambitious project aims to achieve several key objectives:

  • Strengthen regional collaboration in the Mediterranean area through partnerships and promote a gender-sensitive communication model.

  • Contribute to a right, equal, and fair digital environment by empowering people through education and skills, aligning with the European Commission's priority to build a Europe fit for the digital age.

  • Counteract the persistent projection of negative and degrading images of women across all media forms (electronic, print, visual, and audio) to bring about concrete change.

  • Promote equal consideration of women's and men's perspectives in communication to obtain a complete and diverse picture of social reality.

  • Increase young people's communication skills and analytical abilities in dealing with gender equality within their organizations' activities.

The project's core activity was a central training course held in Tunisia in May. This gathering brought together 30 youth workers and communication experts (six from each partner country) who are already active or interested in the field of communication. This intensive training equipped them with methodologies and tools to become agents of change in their home countries.

Following this international training, each participating country has been implementing local activities to multiply the project's impact:

  1. A workshop for 15 girls and women on communication tools. This activity has been completed.

  2. A multiplier training for people working in communication to test and disseminate the capacity-building programme. This activity has been completed.

  3. Online dissemination activities, beyond the project's general communication, are currently in progress to ensure the widest possible reach and engagement.

Through this combined strategy of international cooperation, targeted training, and local action, EUROMEDITERRANEAN GIRL POWER Reloaded is actively creating a more equitable and representative media landscape across the Mediterranean region and it is co-funded by EU.
