ONION – Intercultural Layers in Youth Work

"ONION – Intercultural Layers in Youth Work" was implemented from 04.11 to 11.11.22 in Klaffer, Austria  and the main topics were:

  • Provide youth workers with space to reflect on their role of intercultural facilitators, and critically reflect upon their previous experience in multicultural Iearning environments, 
  • Improve their intercultural competences, skills and attitudes (intercultural communication, negotiation, conflict management, awareness on discriminatory processes, empathy) and the quality of their work; 
  • Improve youth work quality and enhance the role of youth workers and NGOs as social facilitators spreading European values of a culture of peace vs. violence and xenophobia proposing methods for improving relationship awareness and through communication preventing conflicts, discrimination and violence; 
  • Experience non-formal Iearning processes and understand how to support young people's Iearning processes during the proiect; 
  • - Facilitate the creation of partnerships for further proiects among the participating organisations (through positive exchanges between the organisations); 
  • - Strengthen participants' and organisations' competences and capabilities in youth work with international dimensions and cooperation. 
  • - Enhance non-formal education methods and the recognition of NFE Iearning (output production: blog and Photo reports). 

This project was a great experience for me and I will never forget it. I recommend Εrasmus+ to everyone, for sure! I learned many things, such as how to communicate deeply with new people, how to organize workshops and how to manage my time better. I also improved my confidence. A moment that I will never forget is when we made pairs and answered a question in 3 minutes and the partner had to summarize our answer in one minute. We chose questions with deep meaning and we ended up crying and hugging each other. I realised how we can express ourselves in a short time. Thank you for this amazing opportunity! -Anthi 

Αυτό το project ήταν μια μεγάλη εμπειρία για μένα και δεν θα το ξεχάσω ποτέ. Συνιστώ το Erasmus+ σε όλους, σίγουρα! Έμαθα πολλά πράγματα, όπως το πώς να επικοινωνώ βαθιά με νέους ανθρώπους, πώς να οργανώνω εργαστήρια και πώς να διαχειρίζομαι καλύτερα τον χρόνο μου. Επίσης, βελτίωσα την αυτοπεποίθησή μου. Μια στιγμή που δεν θα ξεχάσω ποτέ είναι όταν φτιάξαμε ζευγάρια και απαντήσαμε σε μια ερώτηση σε 3 λεπτά και ο συνεργάτης έπρεπε να συνοψίσει την απάντησή μας σε ένα λεπτό. Διαλέξαμε ερωτήσεις με βαθύ νόημα και καταλήξαμε να κλαίμε και να αγκαλιάζουμε ο ένας τον άλλον. Συνειδητοποίησα πώς μπορούμε να εκφραστούμε σε σύντομο χρονικό διάστημα.
