Project: Art Against Hate

Location: Berlin, Germany

Art Against Hate is a youth exchange that took place in Germany’s capital city, Berlin, from 6 to 14 of December. This exchange was opened for four young people over 18, including one group leader, and was focused on practicing the themes of justice and stereotypes through art. Priority was given to individuals who are active in the topic of hate speech, whether it is on a voluntary or workplace level.

Participants were part of a team of people working with youth, trainers, and representatives of organisations at European level. They were trained and collaborated through experiential learning methods and enriched their knowledge on hate speech both on and off the internet and how to fight it.

The goals of the program were for individuals to:

👉 Create an online environment of mutual respect and understanding

👉 Use music, dance, photography and crafts to address hate speech and cyber bullying

👉 Raise awareness about cyberbullying through educational outreach

👉 Cultivate positive online interaction and take an active role in their communities

The people and the location managed to offer me yet another unforgettable experience.

It was an amazing experience. A lot of things could be better, but the most important for me was that I met very good, interesting and passionate people. Also, I have learnt a lot about combating hate speech using art and of course I discovered that we all have creative ideas.

It was a really interesting project, I loved the Greek team and I also loved the people that were part of this amazing experience. The thing that made this Erasmus special was the bonding between the participants . It was my first time as a group leader and my favourite moment was when everyone was telling that I was a great model and example to them and that I should be a leader more often. Also I left an empty card in the kitchen table and when I came back everyone had written something sweet about me .

Panagiotis

The program was a lot of fun in the learning part of it, and I felt like I learned some useful skills. The best moment for me was the barbecue at the end where we ate meat. Thanks for the experience and new friendships.
