Project: Rooted in Unity

Location: Rome, Italy

How cultural heritage can be protected in times of climate change – that is what the participants learned at the youth exchange “Rooted in Unity” that took place in Rome, Italy, between 3rd and 10th of February 2025. The exchange was open to five people along with one group leader, all aged 18 and above. The objectives of the youth exchange were for individuals to:

👉Raise awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage amidst the challenges of climate change

👉They become custodians of their cultural heritage, actively participating in sustainable conservation efforts

👉Gain access to cultural rights, ensuring the active participation of young people in cultural life

👉Raise awareness about the sustainable protection of cultural heritage in view of the impacts of climate change

Here is what some of the participants had to say about their experiences: 

Stergia:

The Erasmus+ program in Rome was a unique and enriching experience. Focusing on how climate change affects cultural heritage, I gained valuable insights into the intersection of environmental challenges and history. Throughout the program, I developed my communication skills, pushed myself beyond my comfort zone, and had the opportunity to meet people from diverse backgrounds. A special moment for me was when we shared our experiences in group discussions, creating a sense of unity despite our differences.

Polixeni: 

My experience at the Erasmus+ program in Rome, focusing on protecting cultural heritage from climate change, was truly unique. Through workshops, discussions, and teamwork, I gained knowledge, exchanged ideas, and saw things from new perspectives. I feel incredibly grateful for the amazing people I met and the fantastic atmosphere we created together. An experience I will never forget! Hope to see you soon guys!

Mary:

The program was a unique experience that allowed me to meet young people from different countries and exchange views on protecting cultural heritage from climate change. Through various activities, we understood how vulnerable each nation's heritage is to environmental changes and how we can contribute to its preservation. At the same time, interpersonal communication and sharing personal experiences brought us closer together, creating a strong sense of emotional connection and collaboration.

Euthimia:

This project exceeded all my expectations. I met great people from around the world, I learnt new languages, songs, food and tradition. I also had the chance to discuss very crucial topics, such as climate change, with people from different backgrounds, who offered me a new perspective. 

The project is co-funded by the European Union.
